What is Alignment?

Description
Participants explore the connection between curriculum, standards, and assessment. First, they participate in a short hands-on chemistry experience. Then, they analyze three ways a teacher might assess students’ understanding gained from the experience. Finally, they see how it relates to standards. These experiences and a reflective discussion lead to an understanding of the importance of aligning curriculum, standards, and assessment; the importance of providing students with an opportunity to learn; and an appreciation of the pros and cons of "teaching to the test."

Use
Great follow-up to Assessing Standards activity.

Ideal for participants who want to explore the issues in more depth.
