Description
This brief PowerPoint presentation shares key points about a parent’s role in the realm of testing, assessment, and accountability. Parents need to know about key assessment issues in order to gain perspective on their child’s learning needs; understand their role in supporting their child; and so parents’ voices can be part of the discussion about testing and accountability issues at the community, state, and national levels. When making sense of a child’s testing and assessment results, remember: it is important to know what a specific test or assessment is designed to measure; more than one "data point" is needed to accurately assess earning progress; and children are smart in different ways. A parent’s role is to: find out how their child is smart and where she needs more support; help their child achieve her maximum potential; and advocate for their child’s needs. Understanding about assessment will help parents play this role well.
