Assessing Standards

Description
Participants learn about standards and the logic behind standards-based reform. They compare four sets of actual physical science content standards for kindergarten-fourth grade, and learn that the character of each of these sets of standards is very different. The presenter then shares some of the complexity of standards-based reform, and that it is not as simple as it appears.

Use
Very accessible way to introduce some gray tones into the common black and white approach that often gets used to discuss certain reform issues. It is complex! Can be used as stand-alone. Great activity to do before Why Alignment is Important!
