The Tools

In this section you will find each individual tool you might consider using to make a presentation on assessment-related issues. When you select each tool, you will find a brief overview of its content and use, with complete presentation instructions (in PDF format, or as a Powerpoint, or, in the case of Kalie's Test, a web interactive). As appropriate, you will also find links to related handouts for participants.

Among the types of presentations are:

  • Short presentations. Short interactive presentations that could be presented to large audiences at community meetings.
  • Participatory activities. In-depth activities and discussion prompts to involve parents, many with overhead transparencies and participant handouts.
  • Handouts and articles. Concise informational handouts and short articles or "assessment briefs" that can be given to participants or sent home by schools or teachers.
  • Presentation outlines. PowerPoint slide presentations that provide a basic outline for presenters to expand in their own directions. For more, see this special note.
    • Special Note about the PowerPoint presentations
For your convenience we have assembled some short PowerPoint slide shows related to each of our "main messages" about assessment. These slides are meant to serve as a starting point for designing your own customized presentations. They are not designed to provide in-depth information about assessment and instead work best as a short introduction to topics that can be addressed more fully in interactive workshop settings that allow time for discussion. However, if you have a need for a quick presentation providing some sound bites about assessment issues, then these slide sets could be useful, along with your own narration.
