Welcome to the CAESL Assessment Education Toolkit!

This "Toolkit" is a collection of educational presentations, or "tools" to help educators engage parents and caregivers, community organizations, and the general public in learning more about issues related to assessment, testing, and accountability.

The "tools" in this Toolkit are designed to construct understanding. The overarching goal is to promote better understanding of often complex and controversial assessment issues.

The tools reflect seven key concepts or "main messages" concerning assessment. To download the tools, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer (to download it for free, go to Adobe's website).

CAESL, the Center for the Assessment and Evaluation of Student Learning, aims to improve student learning and understanding in science by focusing on effective assessment. CAESL is a National Science Foundation-funded Center for Learning and Teaching involving the Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST) at UCLA, the School of Education at Stanford University, the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley, Lawrence Hall of Science, and WestEd.
The CAESL Assessment Education Toolkit is designed to be flexible, allowing you to use any combination of what we provide to design your own programs, depending on audience, purpose, time available, or other factors. We give suggestions for possible ways to combine tools, but there are many other possibilities. Feel free to embed or adapt these presentations along with others you've developed on your own.
