This module introduces many important assessment concepts (including different types and purposes for assessment, criteria for evaluating assessments, and strategies for aligning assessment with other aspects of instruction.) These ideas are revisited and built upon throughout the other modules. This module focuses on guidelines and principles for designing meaningful assessment tools. This module introduces pre-service teachers to the use of student work for purposes of formative assessment and grading. This module familiarizes pre-service teachers with the design of standardized tests and the interpretation and consequences of the resulting scores, particularly those used for accountability purposes.
